Adele grew up in Tottenham in the UK and very quickly rose to fame with her powerhouse voice and songs that resonated within the hearts of her audience. She has smashed world records and received accolades for her music from almost every institution that gives out an award.
In Rumour Has It, Naomi Price takes on the extraordinary challenge of not only reproducing the powerful and dynamic voice of Adele, but also of replicating her personality and physical mannerisms. Price does Adele justice and delivers a performance that would be second only to Adele herself. Her mighty voice fills the space and you are left appreciating its rich and strong tone. She does sound like Adele and you value that but there is more to it. Price’s voice is to be respected in its own right as a talented and formidable instrument.
The show has a wonderful sense of the fun and humour that Adele brings to her performances and Price encapsulates. Price’s impersonation of Adele impersonating Celine Dion was such fun to watch. Price doesn’t just copy Adele, she embodies Adele. She does this so well that she can respond to each moment as the singer would. When talking to the audience there is no script to follow as each conversation is new and unpredictable but Price doesn’t miss a beat.
Although there are snippets from Adele’s past in the show this is not a biographical performance. This show is about the music. The songs that are loved are belted out and although there is talk in-between, it never seems to distract from the music but rather it adds layers to the overall performance.
